Do I say goodbye to Auntie in the sky?

I am having an internal debate at the moment, on whether I should continue listening to Radio National or not.

The debate began during the 3pm News broadcast when I realised that the announcer was telling me about a a third man that day being jailed for sexual crimes again children. And sure enough at the 4pm news there was a different man being jailed for a different sexual crime against a child. By the end of the day there were at least 5 different men being jailed for paedophilia. Each story was the same - the man did something horrible to a young child , was caught by the cops, tried by the courts and sentenced to jail.

Hurray - The justice system works.

But this is not news. None of these cases were news to me.

These stories are what I call news;

South Australia to stay GM-Free - For now… http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23180632-29277,00.html

East Timor - http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30200-1305017,00.html

and finally a step forward in this country Mr Rudd.

all we need now is a referendum on the republic again!

If I had hadn’t heard Radio National that day I would never have thought about the crime of paedophilia.

I would have happily worked away thinking of better things I’m sure.

Thanks Radio National for not only putting thoughts of those crimes in my head but also reminding me of them every hour.

Slowly…. slowly….

Slowly slowly slowly I’m figuring this blog page out.

I’m sure I would have achieve more on if I hadn’t been glued to the telly for the “Super Tuesday” breakdowns. Being stuck to that screen made me realize what a political count down junkie I am.

The demographic breakdowns, the numbers flashing on the screen, colour coded maps. At least I recognised the places they were talking about “California, Arkansas, West Virginia, New York. Unlike here where you get the analysts talking about Mayo, Canning, Fairfax and Lingiari????

I suppose the question is “Why is an Aussie caring about the US presidential race?”

Answer: I don’t - I just like political countdowns - I’m sure I’d tune in if the election was held in Iran/Kenya/Luxembourg/East Timor - as long as they have the screens full of maps (colour coded of course), vote numbers and unknown analysts waffling on.

Maybe a new tv station could be created - election tv - I’d subscribe
